We are starting to think about Christmas at Village
Glassworks. People are already dropping by and letting us know that
they are "Christmas shopping". Orders have been made, completed and
delivered. It is, after all, less than 2 months til Christmas.
New
this year in the shoppe we are offering paper quilled snowflakes made
by our friend Ruth. They are beautiful and would look lovely on your tree.

April 18, 2012 Horses are back. It
has been many years since we have made stained glass horses. Thought
we would give it a try again with a new design, one that lent itself to
many colour combinations. Have a look and let us know what you think. They are hanging proudly in the front window. |
April 3, 2012 We
have recently hung a new lamp in the front window of the Shoppe. It
is a remake of one of our original designs. Four porpoises, two whales
on one lamp.

Check our lamps page for larger pictures.
We've also had some very nice weather in New Germany, warm enough that the crocus are opening.

Just hung two new lamps in the shoppe. The
first one is Stripes in Violets, a pattern we have use several times
and made in various colours.

The
second one is a new to us pattern, a modified Floral pattern in warm
beiges, purples and green.
For larger pictures go to our Stained
Glass Lamps page.
And we have added a new tip to the Hints, Tips & Secrets page. |

Just finished another lamp and have hung it in the front window of the
shoppe. It is a pattern we
have used several times as it it makes a very pretty lamp.
This time I
also repeated the colour scheme of ivory and pinks, one I have used
previously.
We also recently finished a lamp for one of our customers. It is hanging over his dining table in a room with lots of pine. Already
we have heard back from him that he has had compliments. It is
perfect when a lamp goes to its "proper" home.

If
you work with stained glass you know that you are always creating scrap
glass; pieces left over from a project often too small to be used for
much. You can sort your glass by colour so that when you need that
small piece of red or blue it is easy to find. And you can look around
for projects to use your scrap glass. Mosaic work has become
very popular lately, either
fusing or gluing and grouting.
Last weekend I attended a concrete sculpture course given by Ivan at Cosby's
Garden Centre. You learn to make free form
sculptures (not molds) starting
with wire and rods and adding concrete. And at the end you
can
embed pieces of glass in your creation. This is my second
year at
Cosby's. Last year I made
a bird bath and here is a picture of the finished project in my yard.

This
year I made a sundial and these pictures are of the project in progress
and a couple of close-ups of the stained glass decorations - a sunburst
and a comet.
The sculptures have to cure for a month or two then we get to
take them home. Check back for a picture of my sundial in the
garden. |

Happy New Year all.
We are back to our regular shoppe hours after a very nice Christmas
break.
Counting
the inventory and completing the bookkeeping for 2011 are on the
agenda, but so is some glass cutting and soldering. We have
several
orders to fill and new creations to make.
Drop by and say hello, always glad to meet you.
